Live poker sites vs video poker in online casinos

Video poker is a poker game played with five cards. To play in this format, you need a game console with a screen. A poker machine is very similar to a regular slot machine in a casino.
There is a wide range of video poker machines available online. They differ from each other by the following parameters:
- Playing lines. Can be between 1 and 100.
- Jackpot. There are slots where some bets count towards the total jackpot.
- Payout Features. The pay table is different for each slot machine. For example, you can get 40 to 1 for a career combination on one machine and even 50 to 1 on another.
Live poker is a type of poker where you play against real opponents. You feel like you are in a real casino as if you were in Las Vegas. It is possible to play on the go, at work, or in transport. Perfect for those who want to immerse themselves in a real game without limits.

Tips on playing the best online poker sites
- Practice free poker
As mentioned before, it may be a good idea to practice some free poker before you sit down at the table with the poker experts. You never know who you’ll be sitting at the table with, so practice and play poker for free!
- Understand the ranking of the hands and your odds
See in the section which hands beat which, so you always know how good your hand is. Also, get control of your odds so you don’t wait with bad odds for an unattainable result.
- Check the pay tables
Before you join a poker table, remember to check how the game pays out and which rules are used so that you are sure that you have understood which rules are used.
- Stop guessing, learn the basic strategies instead
You don’t win in poker by playing blindly and guessing how you should play. Instead, learn the basic strategies so you don’t get caught in a bad game.
- Do not drink alcohol while playing
Alcohol dulls the mind and makes you less able to play tactically. You make hasty decisions and feel invincible. But you’re not!
- Keep track of your budget
Always keep an eye on how much you’ve played for, and remember to stick to what you can afford to lose. Play poker in moderation.
Explanation of the type of bet in online poker
- Donk effort
In poker, a Donk bet is a bet you make based on your position in relation to the last bet. It is usually a small effort, and the term is often used for players who do not seem very experienced, although this is not always the case.
- Continuation (C-bet)
A continuation bet can be used when you bet again on the flop after you have bid pre-flop. It shows that you have the initiative and can mean that you can take the pot already now if the opponent has not hit on the flop.
- Overbet
Overbetting is a popular strategy used to bluff in the UK game of poker. Here you bet more than there is in the pot, and for really skilled players this can be an effective way to turn the round. However, overbetting can be dangerous and transparent if you are not skilled enough.
- Underwork
The opposite of overbetting is underbetting when you make a bet of less than about 40% of the pot. The percentage can vary, but we are talking about a relatively small bet in relation to the pool, and the method is usually only used by really experienced players.
- Three-bet (re-raise)
The term three-bet is most often used to refer to re-raising before the flop. It comes from games with fixed betting limits where the first raise is for two bets and the re-raise is for three bets and so on. It is therefore the third bet in the form of a reraise, which is called a three-bet.
- Value bet
A value bet is used to increase the pot by getting opponents to call a hand that is worse than yours. It is a strategy that the most skilled poker players use to get the most value out of their opponents’ bad hands.
- Pot bet
A pot bet involves betting or raising the same amount as is already in the pot. If there is, for example, £1,000 in the pool, you make a pot bet by betting £1,000.

Know your odds of winning
In order to win in poker, it is really important to have control over your odds, and you must be able to calculate and use the odds to your advantage. When talking about pot odds and whether they are important to poker players, the answer is the ultimate yes! The calculation of pot odds includes how many outs you have, and can be used to calculate whether it pays to call and go for a draw later.
Outs are the number of cards that can improve your hand, and are part of the calculations included in the pot odds. We will not go into depth with how to calculate the pot odds, as it is a longer process, but you can use a quick version called the Rule of Two and Four. It is used to calculate the player’s chance of improving their hand on a draw. You multiply the number of your outs by 4 and then you have an idea of the percentage chance you have of achieving your hand before or with River.
Similarly, you can multiply your number of outs by 2 when there is only one card left to deal, which can help calculate the probability of hitting the desired draw or not.

Poker variations
If you have already dipped your toe into the world of poker, you have probably discovered that there are different poker variants to choose from. We review them and give an overview here.
Texas Hold’em
- In Texas Hold’em, a Small Blind and a Big Blind are placed.
- Each player gets two face-down cards (also called personal cards).
- The first betting round is called the pre-flop round.
- Then comes the flop – the dealer places three open cards and the round starts.
- Second betting round.
- The turn card is shown (the 4th open card).
- Third betting round.
- The river card is shown (the 5th and last open card).
- Fourth betting round.
- Showdown – the player with the best combination of 5 cards wins.
Omaha Hi-Lo
- The players to the left of the dealer pay the Small and Big Blind.
- Players receive four face-down cards.
- First betting round.
- Three open cards are turned over by the dealer.
- Second betting round (pre-flop round).
- Fourth open card is shown by the dealer (the Turn card).
- Third betting round.

- Fourth betting round.
- Showdown – Best hand with two-hole cards and three-hole cards wins and the worst hand wins (if it qualifies).
Five-Card Draw
- The player to the right of the dealer places the Small Blind and the player to the left places the Big Blind.
- Each player gets 5 faces down cards.
- First betting round.
- The players can now lay down 0-5 cards that they want to get traded, and the dealer gives them the same number of new cards.
- Second betting round and the players can bet.
- Showdown and best hand wins!
Pot-Limit Omaha
Pot-limit Omaha, also called PLO poker, is played like Omaha Hi-Lo except that you may not bet more than the pot and not go all-in.
Furthermore, there is only one winner, and in the same way as Hi-Lo, the winner must use exactly two of his face-down cards and three of the face-up cards in his winning hand in order to win.
The most popular poker game at poker sites: Texas Hold’em
When UK players choose an online casino poker game, they choose Texas Hold’em. It is an interesting game that is exciting from the first minute. The rules are clear, you can make different bets and become the leader of the game and take the pot for yourself.
The main feature of Texas Hold’em Omaha is the unlimited betting limit. Most of the time there is only a small number of players at the table, so there is a chance of winning a big jackpot.
The rules of Texas Hold’em
The main goal of card games is to win the pot each round or have the most chips at the end of the tournament. Texas Hold’em poker uses a deck of 52 cards. Each player tries to form a winning combination of 5 cards during the game. According to Texas Hold’em Omaha rules, all players are only dealt two cards. Five cards are dealt face-up in the center of the table. Players use them to form their winning combinations.
At the start of each round, two players must bet, either the small blind or the big blind. The other players only bet when they have the first card in their hand. The player to the left of the big blind begins the first round. Players bet, raise or lower the big blind. Then the first three cards (the flop) are dealt face-up. Then the next round of betting takes place.
After the first round, the dealer dealt a 4-card on the turn and a 5-card on the river. Based on the 5 cards dealt and their 2 cards, each of the remaining players makes their best hand. If the players are still in after the last round, the cards are revealed. The player with the best combination wins.
Different rules for different types of poker games
The most interesting and at the same time challenging poker online games are Texas Hold’em, Omaha, and 7-Card Stud. A deck of 52 cards is used for the games. The main difference between these three types of online poker is the number of face-up (community cards) or face-down (player’s personal cards) cards.
Omaha differs from Hold’em in that the player receives 4 face-down cards in addition to the 5 cards. Of these, 2 should be included in the last sheet. In stud poker, the player uses only their own cards. Some cards are dealt face up, others are dealt face down. The betting rounds depend entirely on whether it is 5-card or 7-card poker.
Poker hands
What doctors and poker players should have in common? They lie in the operating room, the doctor’s hand shaking like the forest canopy during an autumn storm. Your chest is open, your heart is broken, clear fact: is you are all in. This article will teach you how to avoid this situation!
What is a poker hand?
A poker deck consists of the cards 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, T, J, Q, K, and the Ace. There are four of each cards in the game, each in one of the four suits: diamonds, spades, clubs, and hearts. In the most popular variant of Texas Hold’em, you are dealt two cards to your hand. As the game progresses, up to five more cards are dealt face-up on the table – the community cards.
From the total of seven cards, you choose five and form your poker hand. The situational best possible hand also depends on the community cards dealt. Some game rounds do not require a turn (4th card) or river (5th card). And sometimes even the first three community cards are waived!
How many poker hand combinations are there?
There are ten total poker hands. However, you will rarely or never see the best combination, the royal flush – and you should generally refrain from the so-called high card. However, poker hands can still vary widely. A straight isn’t always straight, and a pair at 22 will be beaten by any other pair. And even a royal flush comes in quadruples! In Texas Hold’em there are incredible 133,784,560 poker hand combinations!
All poker hands are ranked at the end
The poker hand ranking determines the order. Not every poker combination can be equally strong. For example, the aforementioned pair of 22s beats the ace as a high card. However, your pair of twos loses to any other pair, three of a kind, or flush. Our wonderful colleagues have prepared this instruction for you:

All poker hands at a glance
Every poker combination has a certain probability and also a clearly defined order in the poker hands ranking. Certain hands give you different options and so you can play with different strategies. Just read our strategy guide. Below is the hand ranking, starting with the strongest, the Royal Flush.
- Royal Flush
A royal flush is so rare that few players ever weigh it, let alone their own hand. In my long poker career, I played millions of hands and had a total of four royal flushes in my hands. Regrettably, I have to tell you that none of them gave me a big win. It was nice nonetheless. Somehow. A royal flush always consists of cards of the same suit. The straight must begin with the ace. For example, if the straight begins with the king or queen, this is a straight flush, but not a royal flush.
- Straight flush
A straight flush is in second place in the poker hand ranking – also highly unusual. You don’t see this sheet very often either. A straight flush stand is basically the royal flush light. For this hand, you need any straight, but of the same suit (flush). Unfortunately, straight flush hands rarely pay well when playing poker against human players. The reason is simple: your opponents can often already guess a straight or a flush on the table with the community cards. The situation is different with video poker, of course, where you usually get a fixed payout percentage in the game.
- Four of a kind
You get to see a quadruplet a little more often. You need a total of four cards of a kind for this poker hand, such as four aces or four queens. This poker hand is also not easy to play, at least in the Hold’em variant. There are at least two of the same cards on the table – sometimes three if you only have one of the cards in your hand. If you play against other players, the suspicion quickly arises that you have at least three of a kind. Your opponents then quickly tend not to compete with you. Again, you’re significantly better off playing video poker, as four of a kind often comes with a great payout percentage.
- Full house
The full house consists of three of a kind and a pair. For example, you may have a pair of 99s and the table is 9QQ27. Your poker hand will then look like this: 999QQ – Full House! Such a hand often pays well because there is a chance that other players will have another Q and thus a three-of-a-kind hand. And very few players give up such a poker hand. This combination also pays off well in video poker or other variants in online poker sites.
- Flush
The flush consists of a total of five cards of the same suit (hearts, spades, clubs, or diamonds). A flush is also a great hand, but also a very dangerous one. At a showdown, you can lose with a low flush (5TQA9) to a higher flush (J7QA9)!
- Straight
A straight consists of five consecutive cards. Example: T, 9, 8, 7, 6 or A, K, Q, J, T. A straight often pays well too, but watch out for your opponents. Especially if you have the bottom two cards, like the 6 and the 7 – and make a straight with the board T, 9, 8. Your opponent might be holding a queen (Q) and the jack (J) and you with take the higher combination down the proverbial loser road.
- Three of a kind
A three-of-a-kind consists of three identical cards. In Texas Hold’em, it is best to hold two of the same cards in your starting poker hand and form three of a kind with one of the community cards. A hidden and very dangerous poker hand. This is also one of the best poker combinations when playing in the casino. You will generate a large part of your winnings with this hand!
- Two pairs
Two pair doesn’t rank high in poker, but this poker hand gives you the advantage in most games. Two couples can reach you in different ways. When playing against human opponents, the hand is slightly weaker. If you can only make a pair with community cards, you should be careful. In this scenario, you often have to admit defeat to three of a kind. This underscores the importance of the two “hole cards,” which are poker’s starting hands.
- A pair
In video poker, you often get back roughly your stake; but this varies depending on the game and the game developer. When playing poker against real opponents, this hand can often get expensive, since a pair really isn’t a good poker hand. If in doubt, you should rather give up this hand.
- High Card
You rarely see a showdown with the highest card. The high card actually means you hit nothing at all. As for poker hands, I would argue that a high card is not a real hand. You’re guaranteed to get nothing with this hand in video poker too.
Play poker online with a sure hand
Of course, it makes a difference whether you play video poker, online poker with real players, in the live casino, or which of the many variants you choose. However, you should at least understand the poker hand order, its weights and advantages, and pitfalls. You should also deal with the rules, bets, and odds. Poker is a simple yet extremely complex game where knowledge is power. The knowledge of poker hands is the most important of all basics.

Important things you need to know before you start
- Learn All the Rules, Odds, Stakes, and Payouts
A solid knowledge of poker rules is a must if you want to play poker. It is also important that you know how many chances you have of winning, how you bet, and what the payouts are.
- Choose the Ideal Poker Variant
There are several variants in online poker sites today. Therefore, it is very important that you can make the right choice. Make sure you know the rules of the variant you want to play. Texas Hold’em or Three Card Poker is particularly popular.
- Plan your budget in advance
How much are you willing to lose and gain? Before you start playing, be sure to set a budget and use it as a reference. Set a win-loss limit that allows you to gamble responsibly.
- Plan how much time you’re going to spend at the table
Not only should you keep track of how much money you’re spending, but also how much time you’re spending playing poker. Be careful not to play longer than necessary.
- Learn Poker Terminology
These are some of the most common terms you will encounter during a poker game:
- Flop – The second round of betting: Three community cards are dealt face up on the table.
- Turn – The third round of betting.
- River – The final round of betting.
- All-in – The term when you bet all of your chips.
- Buy-in – The amount of money you must pay to play a game of poker.

Basic poker strategy for beginners
In poker, developing a basic poker strategy depends primarily on your personal playing style, knowledge of the rules, and observation of what is happening at the table.
What playing styles are there in poker?
There are 4 general approaches to poker that each player can use or combine at their own discretion:
- Tight
The “thigh” player is one who only plays with extremely good hands. If he doesn’t have a good hand, he prefers to fold when others raise.
- Loose
The “loose” style of play is the polar opposite of the closed style and the player prefers to play the vast majority of their hands.
- Aggressive
The player’s aggressiveness or passivity is reflected in their willingness to take risks. The aggressive player is the one who raises frequently and isn’t afraid to bet more on the table.
- Passive
The passive player comes closest to the concept of an “ideal” basic strategy. He generally prefers not to risk his bankroll and is reluctant to raise.
When should you raise?
If you have a winning hand (or want to make your opponents think you have a winning hand), you can consider a raise. The best time to do this is after the flop when the 3 community cards are revealed. At this point, each player has a complete hand, and if your hand is particularly strong, you can protect it by increasing your bet. This step will have the greatest impact on players who don’t have a lot of confidence in their cards.
When is a call announced?
Calling or calling in poker means betting or raising an amount equal to the amount at hand in order to stay in the game. Call before the flop if you feel your cards could lead to a winning hand. There is some risk involved in this poker strategy as you can’t really predict what the flop will bring.
The odds
If you want to develop the best possible poker strategy, you need to understand how pot odds work. This concept refers to the relationship between the size of the pot and the size of the player’s bet.
For example, if the starting pot is £10 and a player bets £5, the pot will grow to £15. With this information, the odds for the pot are 15:5. Each player must try to reduce the right side of the ratio to one.
The psychological aspect
A large part of the game and appeal of poker has to do with the ability to anticipate and predict your opponents’ decisions. When you sit down at a table, whether in person or virtually, you should do so with a certain poker strategy in mind.
With practice, you’ll learn to spot certain signs that indicate what a player is about to do next or what he thinks about his hand. Are they confident or preparing to give up? We will explore this topic in more detail a little later on this page.
Given time and experience, you will be able to identify and outplay weaker players and prevail against more experienced opponents.
Poker strategy for professionals
So far we have seen some of the basic poker strategies. However, in order to consistently win at poker, one needs to do something more, e.g. B. Find an advanced poker strategy to use. Below are some of the strategies most commonly used by experienced poker players.
What does bluff mean?
Bluffing in poker is simply pretending to have a good hand when you might not have it. Normally you bluff when you have a very weak hand. If you succeed in bluffing, you can win a big pot. But if you fail, it can get very expensive.
How to improve your bluffing?
Here are some simple tips to follow if you want to improve your bluffing at poker:
- Perfect Your Poker Face – It should be impossible to decipher your thoughts.
- Play Slowly – Other players will think you have mediocre cards if you give the impression that you are planning your next move very carefully.
- Maintain the same demeanor throughout the game – If at some point you become quieter or start chatting more, the others will become suspicious.
- Think Before You Speak – Always be aware of what you are saying so as not to arouse suspicion.
What is GTO?
Game Theory Optimal or GTO is an advanced online poker strategy based on mathematical models. Applying this theory correctly can save you costly losses at the poker table and mislead other players.
How to master the GTO?
- Perfect Your Bluffing Techniques – Since bluffs and semi-bluffs are used a lot in GTO, it’s important to master these tricks before trying this poker strategy.
- Use 3-bets (pre-flop raises) – 3-bets cause opponents with weak hands to fold pre-flop, narrowing the field.
Reading hands
Another common strategy in poker is hand reading. This strategy is simply a matter of identifying or predicting your opponent’s most likely hands. There are different approaches how to guess correctly, e.g. Tells and Leveling.
- Tells
Tells are involuntary body movements and belong to the area of para- and non-verbal communication. For example, if a player is bluffing or has a good hand, they might behave in a certain way. When you begin to see a pattern in a player, you can exploit it to gain a tactical advantage.
- Leveling or Leveling
The term leveling comes from the expression “level of thought”. Simply put, before deciding your next move, you need to put yourself in the other player’s shoes: think about how they might react to that particular move, and act accordingly.
Which Poker Strategy Should You Choose?
Choosing the best poker strategy is not easy. However, if you want to be successful at the poker table, you as a player must choose a strategy that you believe you can handle Below we will present some strategies that can be useful for both new and experienced players.
The best poker tips for beginners
- Watch Your Opponent – Play in reaction to how your opponents are playing. Watch them to learn their signals so you can bluff when the time is right.
- Don’t be too careful – if you think you have a winning hand, play it. The only way to get ahead at poker is by betting, and if you’re too careful you risk missing your chance.
- Go long-term – you won’t always win, but don’t get discouraged if you lose. Look at the game from a long-term perspective. Over time you will win more than you lose.

Best Video Poker Strategy
Video poker is a poker variant that you can play both online and offline. To improve your chances in this game, it is best to stick to the Jacks or Better version and avoid games with jokers.
We also recommend video poker with progressive payouts. These games reduce the house edge and increase your profitability. And don’t forget to take advantage of casino rewards such as loyalty points or online bonuses. In our opinion, this is the best video poker strategy.
The best strategy for poker tournaments
Here are some tips to keep in mind when looking to enter a poker tournament:
- Start Slowly – At the beginning of the tournament, your goal should be to survive, not win. Take some time to acclimatize.
- Observe your opponents to understand their playing style – Try to find weaker players to play against and if possible stay away from more experienced players until you understand their poker tournament strategy or playing style.
- Play According to Your Stack – When you have a lot of chips you can afford to take a few more risks, but remember to play cautiously when your stack is lower.
Best poker strategy to win
A player’s success at the poker table is largely influenced by their playing style and strategy. Of the four playstyles, the aggressive style gives the best results. Most experienced poker players use this style in tournaments.
A bluff can also be effective if used at the right time. Bryn Kenney, for example, is remembered for a sensational bluff in the 2015 PCA Main Event, where he won £50,200.
The best poker strategies you should know
A sure way to ensure the best results is to always make sure you have the best prerequisites. We give them to you here with a review of the two poker strategies you should definitely have a handle on in order to optimize your poker game. Practice them with poker for free before trying them out for real money.
The short-stack strategy
The short stack strategy is a really good strategy for beginners because it is one of the easiest strategies to implement in your game. It is also one of the hardest to beat when done right. The short stack strategy is useful when you have a small stack of chips and your short stack strategy leans towards the size of your stack relative to the blinds.
- Play only on good starting hands
- Bet small before the flop
- Fold on all speculative hands
- Avoid bluffing and instead only bet on strong hands
The big-stack strategy
When you have a lot of chips (more than the opponents and the biggest stack at the table) you can use the Big stack strategy. It is also called The Big Stack Bully and it is a powerful strategy to enlarge the pot.
- Bet even bigger and show the opponents that you are the one who decides the course of the game
- Expand your options – also play on smaller pairs and take a little more chance
- Pressure your opponents and take advantage of the opportunity to scrape in the blinds
- Keep an eye out for other big stacks and press small stacks instead
- Play smart and don’t use the Big stack strategy against other big stacks
Common mistakes to avoid while playing poker online
Poker is a fun game that requires patience. All too often, players “hang” on the cards in their hands. Instead, you should always remember that even if you have AA, your cards can be bad after a flop.
It’s also important to vary your game from time to time. If you play too tight at the same table with the same player, it will be easier for others to predict your play. Finally, you should also try to only play at a table that suits your budget. So you can better manage your bankroll and enjoy the game longer!
